NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Nomad Health, the first online marketplace connecting doctors and nurses with healthcare jobs, has launched its digital platform in the Midwestern United States today. Less than five months after completing a $12 million Series B financing, Nomad Health’s technology is now available to address severe doctor and nurse shortages in 11 new states including, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
Growing clinician shortageshave been a chronic problem for the U.S. healthcare system, and patient needs are especially dire in the U.S. Midwest. Across the country, the Association of American Medical Colleges projects that there will be a shortage of up to 105,000 doctors by 2030. The Midwest in particular has borne the brunt of the provider shortage given much of the region fits the profile of a ‘Rural America’ that providers have been reluctant to relocate to full-time, and as a result, these are often underserved markets.
On top of doctor and nursing shortages, the Midwest region is also suffering with the U.S. opioid epidemic. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recorded a 70% rise in the number of overdose cases at emergency departments in the Midwest from 2016 - 2017.1
Nomad’s online marketplace is directly helping to address these shortages by launching the healthcare gig economy in the Midwest, which enables clinicians to find freelance or full-time jobs working at hospitals in need. By digitizing the entire hiring process, Nomad makes it simple, fast, and efficient for doctors, nurses, and medical employers to connect directly for jobs - without middlemen agency recruiters. Plus, employers can save up to 40% on recruitment costs. Over 45,000 clinicians and 1,500 medical employers have already joined Nomad.
“Our mission has always been to make it simple to hire clinicians and help patients,” said Dr. Alexi Nazem, co-founder and CEO of Nomad Health. “With the launch in the Midwest today, our team is thrilled to be empowering doctors, nurses and medical employers to connect directly online and spend more valuable time focusing on patients and not on paperwork and recruiters. We are especially excited to introduce Nomad into the Midwest given how severe the clinician shortages are in the region. With simple tools to improve the speed and efficiency of getting clinicians to the bedside, we believe Nomad will help address the clinician shortage in the Midwest.”
University Hospitals, one of the nation’s leading healthcare systems serving patients in Northeast Ohio, has been a part of Nomad Health’s 2018 beta program in the Midwest to hire full-time doctors. In just a few months, Laurel Kellogg, Supervisor of the Office of Physician Services at University Hospitals, has already found great success with Nomad.
"Nomad is a wonderful enhancement to our recruitment strategy. We have had success in finding locums and permanent physicians through the tool and sincerely appreciate the level of customer service from the Nomad team. Nomad is innovative and gives our recruiters the ability to attract both active and passive candidates,” said Kellogg.
Since launching in 2015, Nomad has fast become the go-to platform for matching clinicians to medical jobs coast-to-coast. With the addition of 11 new Midwest states, Nomad continues its rapid expansion and expects to offers its services nationwide in the next year.
“Nomad is creating real change in healthcare staffing, an area where technology has been sorely lacking,” said Dr. Nazem. “By launching in the Midwest, Nomad has radically improved the process of hiring clinicians in the region, which ultimately means better care for patients.”
