CCAC, UPMC Partner To Offer Free Nurse Aide Training

Pittsburgh, PA — The Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC), UPMC and Vibrant Pittsburgh will host information sessions about a new partnership to provide free training for nurse aide positions. The first information session will be from 9:00 a.m. to noon August 19 at CCAC–Allegheny Campus, 808 Ridge Avenue, Pittsburgh (North Shore).

CCAC and UPMC have jointly developed the curriculum to prepare individuals age 18 to 24 for nurse aide positions in UPMC long-term and acute care facilities. At the core is CCAC's proven Nurse Aide Training program, which is fully accredited by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and which prepares program completers to take the state certification exam. The full CCAC-UPMC program is 28 days.

Nurse aides provide patient care under the direct supervision of a registered nurse within the parameters of individualized interdisciplinary care.

Participants must pass background, drug and alcohol and physical examinations before beginning the program. Selection will be based on an interview process. Successful completers of the program may interview for positions in the UPMC system.

The Nurse Aide Training partnership is part of CCAC's Young Adult Empowerment Program, which seeks to provide opportunities for underemployed and undereducated young people to graduate from college and find employment in high-demand, high-priority fields.

Following the August 19 information session at CCAC–Allegheny Campus, an additional free session will be held from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. August 23 at Hill House's Kaufmann Center.
