Want interesting television? If you don't mind watching a show that will remind you of work, mark your viewing calendar for a series on nurses set to debut next month.

Called, simply, "Nurses," the 5-part series will debut on the Discovery Health Channel, part of the Discovery cable network, on January 28. The series, says press information, will go "behind the scenes to reveal the nurses of today."

The press information also speaks to the much-needed positive image of nursing: "These men and women are no longer the silent second-string standing in the doctor's shadow, but are the vital link to the patient, giving the skilled care and compassion that is the key to their recovery."

The series features nurses from Johns Hopkins working at the facility or in Baltimore, Stacy Troubh, spokesperson for the Discovery Health Channel, told Nurses.com. Each episode focuses on a nursing specialty, the first installment featuring pediatrics. Following episodes cover psychiatry, oncology, obstetrics/neonatology, and critical care.

The series gives a sense of the breadth of nursing's role, said Troubh—from nurses working in the emergency department to counseling patients diagnosed with cancer to working in a neighborhood medical center for young women.

Each installment is an hour long. The first two episodes will air back to back on Sunday, January 28, at 8 and 9 pm Eastern time. The final three will air on Sunday, February 18, at 8, 9, and 10 pm.

In November, the year-old Discovery Health channel reaired the six-part ABC News documentary series "Hopkins 24/7" which also focused on the Baltimore institution.
